I’m currently in West Palm Beach, Florida. We arrived at about 1.30 this morning after a very long journey. We’re here for “Knock and Roll” Tournament along with four other National Squads and two of America’s top Club sides. This is the first part of our annual Winter Tour to the States and the Team is anxious to make a good start to this World Championship year!
Today was a recovery day and I’ve used it to take advantage of the beautiful sunshine here in West Palm by taking a push Downtown for some lunch. It’s usual to take some light exercise after a long day’s travel to help get over your jetlag as quickly as possible. The fact that it’s 75 degrees outside and you can get right down to the Atlantic is an excellent motivator. Some squad members may choose to go to the Mall to pick up some last minute supplies (gloves, spare bearings, Isotonics) or simply for a change of scenery. Others may just stay at the Hotel and relax around the pool. Everyone has their own routine that works for them.
Later this evening we have a Team meeting where our aims and objectives for this tournament will be outlined ahead of a Team meal and probably an early night. Tomorrow we’ll get down to the playing venue, check our equipment and have a light training session in preparation for the beginning of the Tournament on Friday. Again this is a pretty standard way to spend the last day before competition starts. Knock and Roll will be in a “Round Robin” format this year and we’re scheduled to play the opening game against Canada at 9am on Friday. You can track our progress by following the link below to the Tournament’s Facebook group. There’s a copy of the schedule as well as some great pictures from last year’s competition. I’ll also be posting a short summary of our performances in my Blog next week.
